I've been getting some interesting questions on my YouTube channel lately, so I decided to revisit three of the most interesting ones and answer more in depth. Links to original videos at the bottom!
The first question comes from Wayne, a PLO regular on Live at the Bike who I recently featured in a poker hand review video where I offer some feedback in terms of his preflop hand selection. I appreciate Wayne coming into the comments and offering more details about the players at his table that may have influenced his decision. We go more into detail why a hand like AsJsQ3 single suited can be easy to overvalue in his scenario and the problems we will face postflop.
The second question is from Daniel Negreanu, regarding a video where I give my take on his advice for Pot Limit Omaha beginners. In my original video, I offer some alternative advice regarding the play of Aces, as well as other general concepts as bluffing and bluff-catching in PLO.
Negreanu popped into the comment section and asked for a more specific question about played marginal Aces at stack sizes over 100 big blinds. I used Pro Poker Tools to analyze the equity of Aces versus different preflop ranges and what that means in terms of our strategy.
The last question is related to a hand I played last Sunday on Twitch Poker. I'm playing 500 zoom PLO and am holding AQJ7ds in the big blind, facing a middle position open and small blind three-bet. Not only is the SB's range very likely tight, but MP can also four-bet if I flat as I will have capped my range the most in this hand.
In the lab with Pro Poker Tools again, we can see that in general, we hold a strong hand, but this situation is not that great for us. Versus two tight ranges, we are simply not doing well enough and with poor relative position on top our hand becomes a fold.
